Cremation has become the preferred choice of most families for a funeral and there are several crematoria in the local area to choose from. A cremation is usually preceded by a funeral service at the crematorium, which can be led by a religious minister or celebrant. The service can also be held at a separate venue, such as a place of worship or at our own service chapel in Sutton-In-Ashfield, before going on to the crematorium for the committal. The committal is the formal end of any funeral and marks a moment of final farewell; during this, the coffin can gently disappear from view of the mourners to signify the departure of your loved one, or the coffin can remain in view and the Funeral Director will ask you for your preference.
After a service, by law the cremation has to take place within 72 hours, but in most places the cremation happens on the same day. Stringent measures are in place and adhered to regarding identification of the coffin and the ashes after the cremation.
The Funeral Director will ask you what you would like to happen with the ashes once the cremation has taken place. One option is to have them scattered in the crematorium Garden of Remembrance and there are various memorial options available to mark a loved one’s final resting place. Alternatively, you may want the ashes returning to you, in which case we will collect them from the crematorium on your behalf for you to collect.
